There are various units, in which weight of an object, person, or some other material is evaluated. Some of the most common units of weight measurement are: gram, kilogram, milligram, pound, and ounce. However, there are dozens of other units that are used to represent the mass or weight of an object.

In the following, we will be talking about some of the important yet unheard and infrequent units of weight measurement –

Gigagram – Represented as Gg, it is a decimal multiple of the base unit of mass. To put it simply, 1 Gg equals to 1000000000 grams or 1000000 kilograms.

Megagram – The internationally-accepted symbol for Megagram is Mg. And, 1 Mg measures 1000 kilograms or 1000000 grams.

Hectogram – Technically symbolized as hg, 1 hectogram has 100 grams or 0.1 kilograms.

Dekagram – Signified as dag, dekagram is an important unit of weight measurement. 1 dekagram equals to 10 grams or 0.01 kilograms, and it is used to denote smaller masses.

Decigram – 1 Decigram has 0.1 gram, and it is represented as dg. This sub-unit of weight measurement is also used for measuring and representing smaller masses.

Kilopound – Kilopound or kip is used for showing heavy masses, and there are 453.59237 kilograms in 1 Kilopound.

Atomic Mass – As per the theoretical definition, atomic mass is the mass of an atomic particle or molecule.  Here is a formula to understand what it exactly is:

1 atomic mass unit = 1.66053886 × 10-24 grams.

Earth’s Mass – It also is a standard unit of weight measurement, used to define the mass of solar bodies in comparison to that of earth. For example, if earth’s weight is 1 mass, then the mass of the sun is 333,000 mass. The mathematic formula -

Earth’s mass = 989 x 1030 Kilograms
